Sync between your phone and PC

Normally everything you enter stays on the device you entered it on. With sync on, your JobKit data is also kept in a small database in your own Cloudflare account, and every device you turn sync on keeps itself up to date: enter a field log on your phone, open JobKit on the PC and it's there. JobKit still works with no signal; changes go up the next time you're online.

Sync off

The key is saved only in this browser on this device. Use the same key on each device you sync.

One-time setup in Cloudflare

About 10 minutes, done once. Sync is free on Cloudflare's free plan for one person's use.

  1. Make up a sync key. A long password only you know, at least 20 characters (for example four random words plus numbers). Write it down; you'll type it into each device.
  2. Create the database. In the Cloudflare dashboard go to Storage & Databases → D1 SQL Database → Create. Name it jobkit and click Create. Leave it empty; JobKit sets it up itself.
  3. Connect it to your site. Go to Workers & Pages, open your JobKit Pages project, then Settings → Bindings → Add → D1 database. Variable name: DB (capital letters). Database: jobkit. Save. If it asks for an environment, use Production.
  4. Add the key. Still in the project's Settings → Variables and Secrets → Add. Type: Secret (or click Encrypt). Name: SYNC_KEY. Value: your sync key. Save.
  5. Redeploy. In the project's Deployments tab click Create deployment and upload the latest JobKit zip again. Settings only take effect on a new deployment.
  6. Turn it on here. Open JobKit → Settings on your PC, paste the key, tick Sync this device. Everything on the PC goes up. Then do the same on your phone; it pulls down everything and sends up what it has.
If two devices change the same item before syncing, the most recent change wins. Deleting something deletes it on every synced device. Your Backup / Restore on the Home page still works as before.
